The Nelson Tasman area is a part of NZ you want to see and experience. With an enviable climate and often called the Sunshine Capital of NZ and a sheltered coastline it is a mecca for sun and beach lovers. As the northern tip of the Southern Alps reaches down to the sea the mountain horizon is always there and provides a magnificent backdrop for any activity you choose to involve yourself in.
This landscape, the climate, and lifestyle has historically drawn artists to the region, you can browse through galleries, craft centers and revel in the creativity of the area. Local markets and festivals are ideal times to meet the artisans and maybe take something home to remember your stay.
You can also enjoy Nelson’s boutique wineries and craft beer outlets that make the perfect excuse for a half or full-day tour exploring the many beautiful corners of the region from the waterfront to the foothills.
We are lucky to live in a very fertile area with the sea at our doorstep, our cafe and restaurant scene is vibrant and provides menus that are well beyond what you might expect to find in a provincial setting. People who enjoy eating fresh, local food will be pleasantly surprised. Those who have special dietary needs will be pleased to know that their preferences and needs will be accommodated at most eating places.
The Great Taste Trail has tapped into this great resource, the trail forms a big loop around the Nelson–Tasman region. This bike trail that can be enjoyed in full over several days or dipped into on short hops or day rides.
